What wine is Tasmania known for
Tasmania is Australia’s most Southern wine region and known for cool climate wines, with a strong pedigree in producing Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and sparkling wines. Tasmania has four main wine regions; the North West, the Tamar Valley, East Coast and Southern, each with their own wine trail.
Some of the better known Tasmanian wineries are Tamar RIdge, Moorilla, Pipers Brook and Jansz, but the range of available wines is so much broader, with around 185 wineries in operation, and Wines of Tasmania will bring both the well known and the hidden treasures to your door.
About Wines of Tasmania
Wines of Tasmania is owned and operated by Katrina Myburgh and was started in conjunction with a passionate group of Tasmanian wine families. The Wines of Tasmania experience is as close as you can get to the cellar door, but in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Originally conceived to support the Tasmanian wine industry during the early COVID lockdowns, the business has grown now to be the premier supplier of Tasmanian wines.
Wines of Tasmania is a wine subscription service that curates Tasmania’s finest wines and delivers them to your door.
We absolutely love the Wines of Tasmania concept (to say nothing of the delicious wines). How good is it to have well developed palates blind taste and select the best Tasmanian wines for you to enjoy? With the best will in the world it is unlikely most of us will be able to visit and taste wines from each of the 185 wineries, so why not have experts do the ‘hard’ work and make a selection for our drinking pleasure?
Choosing your Wines of Tasmania pack
The Wines of Tasmania selections change each month so that you are on a continuing adventure into Tasmania’s finest wines. The choices may include some of the better known wines, but also wines from smaller wineries that are less well known and still producing exceptional wines. Often smaller wineries don’t run to cellar doors, meaning these deliveries provide access to otherwise hidden treasures.
Wines of Tasmania also offers great options; allowing you to choose a single pack or to subscribe to regular deliveries – yes please!
The current Tasmanian wine gift boxes are:
The Gift Box
This is a single purchase offering of three premium wines, ideal for a gift (for yourself maybe) whether personal or corporate. Whilst the selection varies, it always includes a white, a red and a sparkling – a great opportunity to try a variety of Tasmanian wines.
Spectacular Sparkling
If you are a lover of bubbles this is the pack for you. How delicious to have three beautiful sparkling wines delivered to your door every month. That is definitely something to celebrate.
There is something for every taste and every budget.
Exceptional Reds
A monthly delivery of fine red wines from Tasmania is sure to have you conjuring up perfect food and wine matches. Pinot Noir is the current offering with other red varietals on offer on alternate months
Wondrous Whites
Your box of three white wines may include Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris or Sauvignon Blanc, all great varietals from the Tasmanian cool climate. Keep an open mind too, not all Chardonnays are heavily oaked and whilst we may have been overwhelmed by cheap (and sometimes nasty) Sauvignon Blanc, that isn’t what you will find here. Expect fresh flavours which will of course be perfect for our imminent summer.
Magnificent Mixed
Treat your tastebuds with a monthly delivery of mixed premium wines. This month’s offering includes a Pinot Gris, a Sparkling Rose and multi-varietal red. Order this one and you will be keenly anticipating each month’s delivery.
The Select Six
This is the box we were kindly gifted by Wines of Tasmania, and it was full of palate treats: a sparkling white, two pinot noirs, a riesling, a chardonnay and a sauvignon. This pack offered us a broad selection of great Tasmanian wines, including some varietals we wouldn’t normally choose. As I said above, it’s good to have our prejudices challenged, and the crisp fresh chardonnay from Dr Edge did just that. This was a young chardonnay, beautifully balanced with some acidity. We look forward to trying the sauvignon next, and again challenge those prejudices, probably tonight with a pizza. The sparkling is waiting until an imminent birthday celebration, and the riesling is a no brainer for this riesling loving home. The pinot noirs will definitely be served with duck for a match made in heaven.
Tasting your Tasmanian wines
We are keen wine drinkers and have in a past life operated a business in wine tourism. Whilst we love a glass of French Champagne in France (and have had the privilege of visiting the Champagne Region), we are also huge supporters of the Australian wine industry – we really do make some of the best wines in the world.
Whether you are a wine connoisseur or a keen amateur, you are sure to enjoy the Wines of Tasmania experience. Each bottle arrives with a necktag sharing tasting notes, information about the wine and the winery, and recommendations for cellaring (if you can wait that long). But seriously, each wine is ready to drink now if that is your preference, but also offers you cellaring possibilities.
